One must either walk or take an electric mini-car, such as the one sent from our hotel to ferry us and our luggage a few blocks to our accommodations. We stayed the night in Saas-Fee at the sparkling clean, comfortable and quiet Hotel Schweizerh, whose look is typical Swiss chalet. The rooms are modern and there is swimming pool and a restaurant on site. At the restaurant , guests can take pleasure in a full breakfast buffet each morning. Our meal began with an appetizer of lovely, light pumpkin soup, accompanied by a sliver of savory pumpkin tart. Next came a specialty of the house, chicken roasted in straw. The only thing that rivals the food is the restaurant's setting. It perches above Saas-Fee on a thickly wooded hillside and the terrace offers magnificent scenes of the valley below and the surrounding Alps . The hotel rooms here are also beautifully bedecked and boast the same scenic views. The next morning we were up early to get on the cableway to the top of the mountains. For most of the way, the cable car follows a traditional path, suspended high above the valley below. But about five minutes or so of the trip is through the inside of the mountains, aboard the Metro Alpine, the highest underground cableway in the world. Skiing in Saas-Fee is a year-round sport. After leaving the Ice Pavilion and skipping over the Alps via helicopter, we began our tour of Grimentz, located in a French-speaking area of Switzerland known as Val d'Anniviers. After our walk through Grimentz' Old Town , we drove to a nearby camping and picnic area for a cookout, Swiss-styl e. Our trip of this European region was worth seeing. The construction is glorious, there are plentiful gardens, and it's a pedestrian's heaven. The Hofburg Palace was begun in the 13th century, then expanded and altered for centuries, incorporating numerous architectural styles . Like all good European royalty, the Habsburgs also had their summer palace. An irresistible experience of embellishment. The gardens are very stunning, and well matched to a calm wander. Although the directory of places to visit in Vienna is very long, you certainly don't want to miss Maria Theresa Platz. Flanked on two sides by the matching museums of Fine Art and of Natural History, it's an outstanding place to sit and reflect the beauty of Vienna . Both museums are also value losing you in for a while. As a final touch to the day, the Prater Amusement Park is full of traditional delights . The huge ferris wheel in the centre of the park provides a great view of the city at night, and may provide a sense for those who enjoy spy movies. Several people pass through Vienna in a rush on their whistle stop tour of Europe , and neglect on this city's many beauties and allure. Mention the city of Salzburg , in Austria , and it's amazing how many people burst into their favorite song from “The Sound of Music”. Despite this, Salzburg has another claim to musical fame – it was the birthplace of Mozart. With much of its central city relatively untouched for centuries, Salzburg also offers the chance to see magnificent architecture in abundance. No trip to Salzburg would be complete without a visit to Festung Hohensalzburg – the Hohensalzburg Fortress. This old building dominates the old part of Salzburg , sitting on a hill above the city. You can be lively and walk 15 minutes up the hill to reach it. When you reach the top, if you respire hasn't already been taken away by the walk, it will be when you see the stunning views in so many directions. You can pay to visit the interior of the fortress, which includes a charming look at everything. If you have plans to visit Austria , then make sure you include Salzburg on your route. There is so much to enjoy and esteem, and something to suit everybody's experience. Australia, even though very hot most of the time, has some of the finest slopes during the winter. Europe has the most well- known and visited ski slopes, the Alps. Scandinavia is well, Scandinavia. And then there's the United States that boast with the grandest of slopes in the States of Colorado, Nevada and Utah. Let's not forget the Olympics at Salt Lake City, Utah. Going on a ski vacation is a wonderful experience or as the saying goes - let your hair down and have some fun. Skiing is the greatest thing in the world for people who like being out in the cold. Not only can you enjoy skiing, but also enjoy the sport of snowboarding or snowmobiling. Skiing trips are great destinations for a romantic getaway any time of the year; that is why many travel agencies provide them in their honeymoon packages. It can't get any better when you combine a romantic liaison with skiing. Another activity in which you can take part in during a ski vacation is dog sledding or tobogganing. These are some of the most exhilarating activities in the world. There is nothing like the howling of the dogs and their excitement as they anticipate beginning to run. As soon as they are off there is no sound except their feet hitting the packed snow. Or the thrill of the sliding toboggan as it heads down an icy slope. After all this hard work outdoors in the cold you will definitely want to come inside for some rest and relaxation. Many romantic skiing vacation packages include a warm candle light dinner next to a cozy fire and a warm port for afterwards. Playing all day and relaxing in the evening is a great way to spend vacation time no matter what the occasion. The Internet has numerous sites to help you choose a skiing vacation. The best packages for your dollar are the one's that can book everything for you including your air transportation to and from your vacation site, the lift tickets to the slopes, your accommodations and car rental. You can find companies that can offer an all inclusive package. You might even want to include activities off the slopes such as touring local attractions, getting pampered at the nearest health spa or taking skiing lessons while on vacation. Whatever you choose, purchasing packages that include all you desire will make your vacation easier, more affordable with lots of fun for everyone. You'll find that much of it is spread throughout modern life and as well is a strong basis for many of the other myths that can be found in other cultures. Many centuries ago Greek myths were the only religion for the people living in those times. While passage of time have resulted in blurred images and details, the core elements of all these myths have continued to survive in one form or other. In earlier times it was the Olympians that were prayed to and now these have been replaced by gods. Studies have revealed that Homeric Hymns and Homer are the source of origin of many Greek myths. It is safe to assume that since these were the first writings of Greek myths, they travelled from mouth to mouth and different interpretations may have resulted in some twists and turns before actually putting it down to paper. Therefore, most probably some information is missing from what we read today about the written words of Greeks myths and legends. Even though we know these mythical stories aren't exactly the same as they were originally, they still fascinate us. One of the best known creatures of that era is the Cyclops. It was a horrible looking monster who had only one eye, and it was in the middle of his forehead. There were actually three famous Cyclops: Arges, the lightning bolt, Steropes, lightning itself, and Brontes, was thunder. These Cyclops were sons of Uranus and Gaea (Mother Earth), two more Greek mythological creatures. The god of the skies and first king of the Olympians was Uranus. He and his mother Gaea produced the Titans. In Greek mythology it doesn't matter if mothers and sons produce children. Some historians have trouble dealing with this concept. Prometheus, who was the son of Iapetus, was the wisest, most intelligent of all the Titans. His name means "forethought". Because he was able to see into the future, people revered him. He was also the only Titan to battle with Zeus in a war against Cronus. Cronus was one of the most feared Titans, since he was the one that killed his father, Uranus, to gain power. Cronus married Rhea and together they had several children. However, in an attempt to always retain the power that he had, Cronus ate each of his children while they were being born. Eventually Rhea fooled Cronus into eating a stone instead of one of her children. This child became known as Zeus, who in later years would fight against Cronus with Prometheus, banishing Cronus to the underworld. Another Greek mythological creature is Typhoeus. Typhoeus was a dragon who breathed fire with his one hundred heads. This mythical creature has become the basis for much Greek art and sculpture. Typhoeus was eventually slain by Zeus and his resting place is said to be under Mount Etna. The legends of Greek mythology are endless and will keep you reading for hours. On the other side of the coin there is Roman mythology, which has its own heroes and monsters. Each of these cultures has a fascinating history that is brought to life through these myths and legends, highly influencing art and music to this day . The landscape is just as spectacular as the people are welcoming and cooperative. It was bizarre to be footing on the world's most northerly mainland point and we are now looking forward to a fishing cabin holiday. We've seen the Midnight Sun before, but it's a great experience every time. We have experienced something new and thrilling every day, particularly when we've been onto land and experienced something of the indigenous culture. Hope rise as their move toward to the Troll fjord is announced. A 3 kilometer long, 90 meter wide fjord is a strange experience in a large ship. It doesn't matter that it's raining either: the top deck has glass walls and we're warm and dry in our deckchairs as the whole scene is served to us on a gold platter while we're drinking our afternoon coffee. We sense something beautiful, something stimulating, as if we are part of something much larger in this slim fjord. My trip on a cruise can safely be called the world's most striking voyage. Russia has plenty to offer in this respect, whether you opt for traditional Russian fare or meals representative of other CIS countries.
What Not to Eat
You can eat well in Russia at any budget. However, because some people get sick when they travel and eat unaccustomed food, this situation can happen in Russia also. So, because you don't want to spend time being miserable in your hotel room from a stomach problem, it's wise to be careful, just to be on the safe side. Some suggestions:
Don't drink tap water. Drink only bottled water. It comes with or without gas. When you order bottled water at restaurants, make sure the waiter brings you an unsealed bottle (not an open bottle that could have been filled with tap water). Of course, if you order water with gas, you won't have this possibility.
Brush your teeth with bottled water, not tap water.
Avoid salad bars (vegetables washed with tap water).
If you buy fruit, wash it with bottled water, not tap water. You get the picture with tap water.
If you order a coffee or tea, be aware you might be drinking tap water, but it's boiled.
Avoid food from sidewalk stands.
Enjoy all thoroughly cooked food.
I should note that I have broken all the suggestions above throughout Eastern Europe and not suffered consequences. I love going to cafes for coffee and eating ice cream from sidewalk vendors. But again, you may opt for the safest route than take a chance spending your precious visit too sick to enjoy it.
Restaurants
Moscow and St. Petersburg have a proliferation of well-known chains, including McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and TGI Fridays. But try to sample other food, as both Moscow and St. Petersburg can offer so much more. Check the English language newspapers such as the Moscow Times for listings of restaurants.

Cuisine
Russian cuisine does wonderful things with meat, cabbage, potatoes, and dough (both bread and pastry). Well-known dishes include :
borsch (beet soup)
pelmeni (boiled dough pockets filled with meat)
beef roll (finely chopped meat and spices rolled in fine pastry)
chicken kiev
draniki (potato pancakes)
golubtsy (cabbage rolls filled with meat and rice, covered in a tomato broth)
There are many other dishes, with beef, pork, poultry and fish, as well as potato salad, pickled vegetables, mushrooms, caviar, and wonderful dark bread.
Don't forget dessert: bliny, ponchiki (doughnuts), kulich (rum cake) and ice cream.
Payment
In top restaurants you will likely be able to pay with credit cards. At smaller cafes and restaurants, you will probably have to pay with rubles.
Drinking in Russia
We'll get to the vodka later but first, know that Russians love to drink tea (chai). With samovars boiling away in offices and train compartments and lots of other places too, Russians drink tea all day long.
Vodka is a popular drink, and comes plain but also flavored: lemon, cranberry, herbs. It's hard to keep up with a Russian drinker so you may not want to try.
Beer (pivo) is also popular. Russian brands include Tinkov pilsner , Baltika, Stepan Rizan, Nevskoye, Klinskoye, and Tolstiyak. A low-alcohol beer is called kvas.
Russia also produces wine, with three million acres of vineyards. Russian wines aren't for everyone, as they can tend to have concentrated fruity flavors and some are rather sweet. While you're in Russia, you may want to try the wine of former Soviet republics, such as Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine. Popular white wines are the Anapa Riesling, Tsinandali, and Gourdzhuani. Reds are Saperavi and Mukuzani.
Tipping
Tipping has not yet become an expected norm in restaurants around Russia, although at better restaurants and cafes, you will find that patrons will do so. However, a normal rate has not been really established yet, so many people leave between five and ten percent, or more depending on the service. At not so fancy restaurants or cafes, you can round up the bill. Some restaurants will add service to your bill, so check first before you tip, and feel free not to tip at all if you believe the service doesn't deserve it. If there is a cloakroom where you need to leave your coat, there may be a sign telling you the amount to release your belongings. Otherwise, leave a few rubles or a dollar. Russia Travel Guide Index

The Windstar Cruises passenger sees the world from a romantic sailing ship with luxurious accommodations, a casual yet elegant atmosphere, and exquisite service and cuisine. Well known for cruising off the beaten path, throughout 2002 Windstar Cruises celbrated our 15th year of sailing to exotic locales and hidden harbors that larger ships cannot access. These stately vessels turn heads from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean to the Far East. The Windstar Cruise Ships In late 1986, the first commercial sailing vessel built in 60 years slipped out of a French dry-dock in Le Havre. Although the towering sails echoed a bygone era of explorers, the msy Wind Star, with its sleek lines and computerized controls, was revolutionary in concept and design. Windstar''s ships are officially masted-sail-yachts (msy), but the designation belies the vessels unique rigging. Unfurling in two minutes at the push of a button, billowing white sails reach to the sky. All functions are operated from the bridge by computer micro-chips and navigational devices. The unusual "open-bridge" operation allows guests to drop by and acquaint themselves with the veteran captains and officers who demonstrate the ship''s intriguing capabilities to modern day explorers. The 148-passenger Wind Star was joined by sister ships the msy Wind Song in 1987, and msy Wind Spirit in 1988. A new era in luxury cruising was now being pioneered by Windstar Cruises. Nearly a decade later in 1998, the 308-passenger msy Wind Surf was acquired by Windstar. Sailing originally as Club Med I, the Wind Surf was built in 1990 in the same shipyard to strikingly similar specifications as her sister ships, making her a perfect match for the four fleet family. Windstar Cruises Shipboard Life Windstar''s unique concept of sailing has lead the cruise industry in the luxury small ship, casual attire, and alternative dining arenas. Pioneering and refining these concepts has earned Windstar an excellent reputation and market niche, winning the allegiance of a new generation of contemporary cruise vacationers, one-third of whom are first-time cruisers. Teak decking, rich wood interiors, an attentive service staff, intimate surroundings, eclectic artwork, exceptional signature cuisine featuring both light and vegetarian menu selections, and an extensive wine list are some of the extraordinary elements which have become synonymous with Windstar. Features unique to the Wind Surf include 31 deluxe suites, a Business/Internet Center, The Bistro, and the 10,000 square foot WindSpa offering a full array of spa treatments, consultative, health and fitness programs. Windstar Cruises Passengers are cradled in comfort as all staterooms and suites offer ocean views, sitting area, TV, VCR, CD player, safe, mini-bar/refrigerator, international direct- dial phones, bathroom with toiletries, hair dryer, plush robes, and plenty of closet space. The library on board stocks an array of international newspapers, books and games, as well as a multi-media selection of more than 500 video titles and compact discs available for complimentary check-out. Carrying just 148 to 308 guests, Windstar cruise ships exude a private yacht-like atmosphere creating camaraderie and lasting friendships between fellow sailors. Every day aboard Windstar brings the promise of new horizons and harbors to explore. Windstar Cruises Destinations and Activities Newly announced destinations for 2003 include Northern Europe, Baltic, Malta and Tunisia. New itineraries complement tried and true Windstar favorites such as the Greek and Turkish Isles, Mediterranean, Caribbean, Virgin Islands, French Polynesia and Trans-Atlantic crossings. An interesting mix of shore excursions and complimentary water sports activities are available at each destination. Passengers may find themselves slicing through Caribbean waters aboard an actual America''s Cup racing yacht, or exploring archaeological ruins in Greece, the "Cradle of Civilization." Water buffs can enjoy complimentary water-skiing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking and "banana" boat rides from the ship''s aft Water Sports Platform. Windstar's cruise vacations offer a sea-side window on the world, combining the refinement of a luxury hotel with a moveable feast of cultural experiences. Seattle-based Windstar Cruises operates the 308-passenger Wind Surf and 148- passenger Wind Star and Wind Spirit. The three sailing yachts cruise to over 47 countries worldwide offering an affordable luxury vacation.
