So Mom, Dad and the kids can enjoy the G-rated attractions in Vegas. Q: Where can I safely drop off my young children in Vegas while I gamble away their college fund? A: Hey, we would never recommend dropping off kids anywhere or gambling away their college fund, especially when there are a number of attractions for the whole family in Vegas, including GameWorks and Circus Circus' Adventuredome . Kids can kill a lot of hours at these places (and considering the prices of some new games, they might kill their own college fund). You also can spend a relaxing hour taking in the IMAX movies at the Luxor. If you do want to gamble, though, there are a handful of hotels that offer child-care facilities on property. Q: My sister and husband are coming to Vegas with their 1-year-old. Will we be allowed in the casinos? Where can I take them? We want to show them at least one casino, but we have baby considerations, such as feeding, napping, strollers, etc. What can you recommend? A: They'll be allowed to bring the baby into the casino if they're just passing through (to get to a restaurant, shopping, etc.) But babies and blackjack don't mix, so don't plan to sit down with a toddler at the tables. Also, the Bellagio does not allow children inside unless they're registered hotel guests, attending a show or dining with the family at one of the restaurants. Take it from us, the best places to take a baby would be shopping or to the many attractions Vegas offers. Try the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay (kids under 4 are free), the Forum Shops at Caesars or gardens at the Flamingo with live African penguins, Chilean flamingos, Mandarin ducks and Koi fish. Youngsters will definitely get a kick out of the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. Q: We are coming to Vegas with our 8- and 12-year-olds. What is there to do for kids this age that will still be fun for us? A: Vegas may be Sin City, but there are still plenty of things that the whole family can enjoy: magician Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo, " Tournament of Kings " dinner theater at the Excalibur, the World's Largest Permanent Circus at Circus Circus, buffets , hiking at Red Rock Canyon , the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay and the IMAX Theater at the Luxor. If you want to get some shopping done, Caesars offers something for the whole family. Stop and shop at the Forum Shops where the kids can enjoy the Fall of Atlantis and Festival Fountain shows and aquarium . Some kids also enjoy seeing the Hoover Dam . Q: What is the best hotel to stay in with our kids? A: Location rules in this category. Check out New York-New York for its Manhattan Express roller coaster , Excalibur ( Merlin's Magic Motion Machines and Fantasy Faire midway),Luxor ( IMAX Theater , arcade), Mandalay Bay ( Shark Reef ) and finally Circus Circus , which has the most kid-centric activities per square foot. Q: What is the best free stuff to do with our kids in Vegas? A: There are so many free attractions in Vegas, it's hard to know where to begin. First, you have the sheer wonder of just wandering around the Strip. There also are the gardens at the Flamingo , the erupting Mirage volcano , the Fountains at Bellagio , the "Masquerade Show in the Sky" in the Masquerade Village at the Rio and the high-flying Circus acts at Circus Circus. You also won't want to miss M&M's World at the Showcase Mall, Mount Charleston , MGM Grand Lion Habitat , Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat (kids under 10 free) and White Tiger Habitat at the Mirage. For more, check our free attractions page. That ought to keep you busy. Q: We want a fun place to take the kids to eat. Any suggestions? A: Vegas boasts a lot of dining alternatives that are great for the kids. The themed Rainforest Cafe lets you dine among a 10,000-gallon saltwater aquarium and animatronic animals, and movie memorabilia is on display at Planet Hollywood . If your kid is a picky eater, you can't go wrong with a buffet . You might want to call ahead to find out children's prices and special offers. Hotel City Search : Republic of China Following most of Chinese mainland's occupation by Communist armies, General Chiang Kai-shek moved the Nationalist government of China's headquarters to T'ai-pei, on December 8, 1949. During the 1950s, the United States vowed to take military action against the Chinese mainland if Communist forces attacked Taiwan or the Pescadores. With extended financial and military aid from the US, during the early 1960s, Taiwan was able to build its economy. The mainlanders who had taken refuge in 1949 continued to dominate the political stage, but Taiwan was becoming isolated as countries sought to strengthen ties with the larger market in mainland China. Neither of the Chinese governments would have formal relations with any nation recognising the other. The Democratic Progressive party (DPP) continue to campaign for Taiwan's independence from mainland China, while Beijing threatens military action if this ever happens. The People's Republic of China claim Taiwan as one of its provinces and some native Taiwanese resent the claims. Posturing and flexing of navy muscle is not uncommon in the South China Sea . Language and Culture The official language of Taiwan is Mandarin, although other Chinese dialects are also spoken. The Taiwanese are mostly descendants of the Chinese who emigrated from Fujian and Guangdong provinces during the 18th and 19th centuries. The Taiwanese celebrate many ancient Chinese customs and holidays, especially the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the Feast of Lanterns. Taipei You can also call it T'ai-pei or Taibei; whatever, it's the provisional capital of the Republic of China, or Taiwan. Located on the Tanshui River, near the north coast of Taiwan, you will fly into T'aoyan International Airport. Immigrants from mainland China's Fujian Province first settled here in the 18th century, but not a lot was happening. The Japanese brought sushi to the island between 1895 and 1945, until they surrendered the island to China after World War II. Taipei Sightseeing Among all the neon light, there are some Buddhist shrines of interest in the city. The Memorial Hall to Chiang Kai-Shek is a large white marble structure with an enormous blue-tiled roof, surrounded by an impressive garden. Museums : The National Palace Museum contains Chinese art treasures from the 2nd millennium BC to the 20th century, and the Hwa Kang Museum has displays of folk and modern Chinese art. T'ai-nan The Chinese pirate, Koxinga, made the city his capital due to its convenient position on the south-west of the island. It remained the capital of the island until 1885, when the government was transferred to T'ai-pei. Tulum Mexico Travel Information : TravelYucatan.com Tulum Mexico Travel Information Tulum Mayan Riviera Mexico TULUM MEXICO Tulum Mexico is the combination of a beach [coastline], archeological zone, and town. You could say that there are three distinct zones making up what people commonly refer to as Tulum. TULUM RUINS Tulum ruins are located 130 km south of Cancun. The "Tulum Archeological Zone" is the first distinct zone. You can't miss the ruins driving along Hwy 307 either in a rental vehicle or in a bus/collectivo. There are numerous signs and there is a big pink hotel on the corner. Tulum ruins are approximately 1 km down a road towards the coast. There is a large market there as well as a few fast food restaurants. Along the road towards the ruins on your immediate right is where the Mayan Pole Flyers do their pole flying. They perform throughout the day and you can sit and watch. Tulum ruins has one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. You can jump in the water at Tulum ruins and swim north to Boca Paila [we have done this]. TULUMS HOTELS For current Tulum hotel and resort information including rates, availability and secure on-line reservations please see: Tulum Hotels and Resorts Cancun Airport to Tulum Transfer Information TULUM PHOTOS Click on Image to Enlarge Restaurants Restaurant Main 307 Strip Mini Super Tulum Taqueria Maya at Ruins Ruins Beach North Ruins Beach South Tulum Ruins Beach TULUM BEACH Boca Paila has yet to be invaded by the all-inclusive resorts and remains as one of the last popular bastions of hedonistic culture in the Riviera. Along the beach you find inexpensive cabana's for rent [no reservation needed] and the odd drink stand/BBQ joint. Clothing is optional. Snorkeling along the coast here is not that good. Lots of sand and weeds. Tulum Beach can be accessed through a number of points. You can walk in via the road that takes you to the ruins. Just keep following the road south when it hits the ruins. This same road takes you to the Sian Kaan Biosphere and Punta Allen. You can access the beach by walking through an opening or access point from the road. There is also access at Tulum Pueblo. TULUM PUEBLO Tulum Pueblo is either a small city or a large town; it is hard to say. This is where many of the locals live who work in the nearby resorts and hotels. Many support workers such as bus drivers and construction workers live here as well. It is a diverse population with everything from computer programmers to dive instructors. You enter Tulum Pueblo on Hwy 307. Along the highway is the tourista zona and there is shop after shop selling everything and anything. Lots of tortilla stands, restaurants, pharmacies and other kinds of stores. There are dive shops, tour companies, car rental agencies but no bank or bank machine, go figure. The closest bank machine is at Hacienda Isabela [Bahia Principe Resort]. Off of the highway are residential streets with people living in houses and businesses. BUS INFORMATION There are two bus terminals in Tulum, one near the Pemex station, open to the public from 9: 00 to 18: 00 hrs. The other is located in town and is open 24hrs. Both provide first & second class bus service. The collectivo also stops in town on Hwy 307. You can take the collectivo from Tulum to Playa del Carmen for 15 pesos. TAXI There are 2 main taxi stands. Just look for the line up of taxis. Usually you do not have to look for a taxi as they are constantly driving by looking for fares. TOURIST INFORMATION / POLICE The Police station as well as the library, the Mayor's Office and the Tourist Information Office are located beside the baseball field. The Post Office is located on the main avenue [Hwy 307].
