With five locations throughout South America, there are A&K offices working for you. Imagine the level of service that allows us to provide: A&K is always right at hand to ensure that your journey proceeds smoothly, shaped and guided by people who know and love your destination. The World’s Best Tour Directors While other companies often employ guides who are foreign to the destination you are visiting, A&K Tour Directors reside in and are passionate about the country in which they work. And they are hand-chosen for their knowledge, charm and expertise on a variety of subjects from archaeology, flora and wildlife to politics, geography and current affairs. For example, A&K’s Diana Hidalgo has been guiding visitors through her native Peru and neighboring countries for more than 25 years and brings unrivalled knowledge of Peru’s history, culture and people. By Invitation Only… Our highly experienced team offers you innovative insider’s access in the form of, for example, heralded guest speakers, specially hosted welcome dinners, and private wine and cheese tastings — events often not available to other travel companies and their guests. In Buenos Aires, for example, A&K guests travelling on our escorted programs enjoy a private behind-the-scenes visit to the luxurious 1908 opera house, Teatro Colón, where they also tour backstage and attend costume and stage design workshops not open to the general public. Private Transfers …Any Time Unlike many of its competitors, A&K provides its guests with private transfers whenever you choose to arrive or depart. This allows you the flexibility to arrive early or extend your stay beyond the dates or times of your group program. Most other tour operators offer to transfer you to and from the hotel from one specified group flight. But A&K gives you the comfort, luxury and freedom to plan your trip as you prefer. Any day, any time, day or night. In addition, in Santiago, Chile, A&K has special permission to meet you inside the Arrivals Hall, assisting you with passport, visa and other custom formalities. A More Personal Touch With an average of just 12 to 15 travellers (sometimes even less) and a maximum of 24 on our Connoisseurs Series, A&K groups are small enough to facilitate personal contact among group members, and undivided attention from your Tour Director. These smaller numbers also result in access to quaint restaurants off the beaten track, and discerning hotels that refuse large groups. While other company’s travellers are herded through the streets of Buenos Aires or the Inca relics of Cusco in groups of as many as 40, A&K guests feel as if they are travelling with a small collection of friends. Freedom To Choose Excellent meals ought to be a high point of every holiday. So it’s important to know not just how many meals are included in the cost of your program, but what kind. Must you eat from a set menu, or can you choose what you like? On many competitors’ trips, set menus are the inflexible rule. A&K offers…freedom. Sometimes we’ll take you to spectacular “white-tablecloth” restaurants, or casual waterside bistros. Sometimes you’ll set off on your own with a recommendation to a favorite tapas bar or tango club. In many locations, our popular À La Carte option allows you to dine at your hotel when, where and with whom you choose at A&K’s expense. Receive your Travel Catalogue! Download Now Receive By Mail

Travel to St. Petersburg, Russia's Elegant Former Capital City According to U.N. statistics, St. Petersburg, Russia is the eighth most visited tourist site in the world, with several million people visiting the city every year. Why do visitors flock to this former capital of Russia? St. Petersburg is a travelers delight, famous for its summertime White Nights, its marvelously designed old city section, beautiful buildings on the banks of the Neva River, and its many churches, museums, gardens, theaters and activities. The city's turbulent history also draws visitors. Key Points about St. Petersburg Tsar Peter the Great established St. Petersburg in 1703, with the founding of the Peter and Paul Fortress on May 27th of that year. While some may have wondered why the tsar chose to put his namesake city in a swamp prone to flooding, Peter delighted in the city's strategic position on the Gulf of Finland as an entry to Europe. By 1712, the city became the capital of Russia. Over the years, the city changed names to Petrograd and Leningrad but now has regained its original name. Young by European terms, the city is architecturally stunning, with many cathedrals, museums, monuments and more than 500 bridges over the river Neva. Nevsky Prospect is where most tourists go, as it is the main thoroughfare through the citys historic center. St. Petersburg has two high seasons: May through July and the spectacular winter season between the New Years holiday through January. St. Petersburg is famous for its White Nights of summer when daylight never really goes away, particularly between June 11 and July 2. St. Petersburg has a deserved reputation for world-class attractions. The city is home to the State Hermitage Museum, the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater, St. Isaacs Cathedral, and the palace of Peter the Great. The city hosts annual art exhibits and music and film festivals, including the Viva Russian Cinema festival. Entry Russia requires that most foreign visitors obtain a visa. You cannot get a visa at the border so make sure you get one in plenty of time from a Russian embassy or consulate or an authorized travel agency. You will also need an official invitation, best obtained from an authorized travel agency. Major Attractions Nevsky Prospect has been St. Petersburgs heart since the days of Peter the Great. Its 4.5 km of shops, hotels, performance venues, and lively activity. Many of the attractive buildings have been recently renovated. The State Heritage Museum contains large collections of art from prehistoric to modern times. One building belonging to the museum is the Winter Palace, former home of the tsars. The State Russian Museum is the worlds largest museum of Russian art. The Peter and Paul Fortress was St. Petersburgs first structure and today houses a number of museums and the Peter and Paul Cathedral where all Russian tsars since Peter, except Nicholas II, are buried. Peters Cabin is the citys first residence. A wooden structure built for Peter the Greats use, it contains artifacts from his time. St. Isaacs Cathedral is the worlds third largest domed cathedrals. Featuring mosaics, red granite columns, loads of precious stones, and a gold-covered cupola, the cathedral is major landmark. Climb up the colonnade for a view of the city. For more about St. Peterburgs attractions, see the Russian Tourist Office website. See page 2 for information about shopping, dining, and lodging. Somehow Ellen (Bevery D'Angelo), the mom, gets kidnapped by gangsters, leading to a car chase that reunites the family, despite their differences. It's hard to believe that National Lampoon's European Vacation is only the second of the Vacation movies; it has the exhausted pallor of the last of a long series of sequels, drained of all zest or original ideas. The charmless smirk of Chevy Chase, mechanical in its idiocy, hangs over European Vacation like a death mask. It's hard to believe that this hack was once the funny and sexy hero of Foul Play . D'Angelo keeps her chin up and gives the movie whatever class it may have; she deserves better. --Bret Fetzer Product Description: The Griswalds are on vacation again when they win a deluxe tour of the old world and take on the European continent -- the continent loses. ( Report this ) 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: Not on par with the original, but pretty close! , April 19, 2005 Reviewer: Britt Gillette "www.thedvdreport.com" (Chesapeake, VA USA) - See all my reviews Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo return as Clark and Ellen Griswold in National Lampoon's European Vacation, sequel to the original Vacation movie and precursor to the holiday classic Christmas Vacation. Like the other films, this edition contains different cast members to play the roles of Griswold children Audrey (Dana Hill) and Rusty (Jason Lively). The only Vacation movie that doesn't feature Cousin Eddie (Randy Quaid), European Vacation is nevertheless one hilarious movie. It's an old school comedy like they just don't make anymore... When the Griswold family appears on the hit TV game show, Pig In A Poke, they inadvertently beat a superior family and win an all-expenses paid trip to Europe. As usual, Clark is giddy about the wonderful trip of family bonding which he dreams his family will enjoy. But Audrey is mortified at the prospect of leaving her boyfriend behind. Nevertheless, the Griswolds hop on a plane bound for Europe. Right off the bat, Clark's dream vacation begins to experience shortcomings. The first hotel the family stays in is a half-star dump with a community bathroom, and Clark gets stuck on a circular roadway where he endlessly passes by Big Ben and Parliament. A couple of brilliant guest appearances are turned in by Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame) who plays the role of a zealously friendly biker. In one of the funniest scenes in the film, Clark smashes into the biker, who apologizes to Clark while hobbling away from the wreck and who springs a bloody leak from his wrist that he passes off as a mere "flesh wound". When Clark hits another motorist, he and the family are given the man's bumper as a souvenir to take home to America. As the Griswold clan makes their way across mainland Europe, especially in France and Germany, they encounter various pitfalls and cultural misunderstandings. Rusty causes a dog to jump to its death from the heights of the Eiffel Tower, and Clark instigates a riot in a small Bavarian township. One of the more memorable one-liners from the film is when Audrey tells Clark that in Germany "sex" means "six," so while searching for his relatives who live in apartment six, he greets some surprised residents with the tagline, "Hello, my family and I are looking for sex!" When the stress becomes unbearable, the vacation inevitably drives each of the family members in a different direction, but everyone is quickly brought back together when Ellen is kidnapped by a pair of petty criminals who want to get their hands on the family vacation fund. Clark must come to the rescue and save, not only his wife, but the family's entire vacation experience as well... A great comedy that contributes to the overall quality of the National Lampoon's Vacation films, European Vacation is a fun, family-oriented film. Those who enjoyed the exploits of Clark Griswold in the more recent Christmas Vacation or Vegas Vacation films will find it well worth their while to go back see this movie which many people have forgotten about. This is an utterly hilarious film in its own right, and clearly earns its designation as a must-see film... The DVD Report Was this review helpful to you? It is revealed in the intro, on his passport, that Clark's middle name is Wilhelm. Goofs Click here to see more Goofs In this movie, the family name is spelled Griswald. In other Vacation movies, it is spelled Griswold. Movie Connections Click here to see more Movie Connections Follows: Vacation Followed by: Christmas Vacation Alternate Versions Click here to see more Alternate Versions Some alternate takes of scenes were filmed especially for television, toning down the raunchy nature. For example, the female aerobic dancers in the television version are wearing tops. Another alternate take was of Rusty and the girl he meets in Germany. In the theatrical/video version, as they kiss, she unbuttons her uniform and Rusty stares at her breasts which we see. The alternate was her unbuttoning it and having a bra on. This take is on all television versions of the film today. When aired on TV, the scene where the Griswalds leave the house of people they thought were Helga and Fritz, Helga's reply (to Fritz's question of who the hell they were) of 'Beats the shit out of me' was changed to 'Damned if I know.' In the more recent TV airings, the original phrase was there with the word 'shit' blured on the subtitle. In the scene where Ellen sees the billboard with her picture on it advertising the stolen homemade porno flick, there are three different versions of the subtitles that explain the title. One is "The Wet Hot Wife," which appeared on the laserdisc version. Another was "The Slut in the Showers," which I believe appeared on the televised version. And the final was "The Whore in the Hot Tub," which appeared on one of the VHS incarnations. When aired on TV, Clark's song "The Sound of Griswald" was altered because one line of the song that goes: "This should spin around for a very long time" sounds too much like "This shit's been around for a very long time." When Clark's car suffers the blowout during the chase, he yells out the f-word. The television and VHS version dubs this to say "Darn it all!" The recent 2003 version seen on the Encore! network also has this dub, which is very evident. Quotes Click here to see more Quotes Stewardess : Can I get you anything to drink? Clark Griswold : Honey? I guess I'll have a Coke. Stewardess : Do you want that in the can? Clark Griswold : No, I'll have it right here. [in Germany, Clark peers down at a village in the hills and tears come to his eyes] Clark Griswold : There it is, kids, my motherland. Rusty Griswold : Dad, Grandma is from Chicago. Clark Griswold : Shut up, Russ. So Mom, Dad and the kids can enjoy the G-rated attractions in Vegas. Q: Where can I safely drop off my young children in Vegas while I gamble away their college fund? A: Hey, we would never recommend dropping off kids anywhere or gambling away their college fund, especially when there are a number of attractions for the whole family in Vegas, including GameWorks and Circus Circus' Adventuredome . Kids can kill a lot of hours at these places (and considering the prices of some new games, they might kill their own college fund). You also can spend a relaxing hour taking in the IMAX movies at the Luxor. If you do want to gamble, though, there are a handful of hotels that offer child-care facilities on property. Q: My sister and husband are coming to Vegas with their 1-year-old. Will we be allowed in the casinos? Where can I take them? We want to show them at least one casino, but we have baby considerations, such as feeding, napping, strollers, etc. What can you recommend? A: They'll be allowed to bring the baby into the casino if they're just passing through (to get to a restaurant, shopping, etc.) But babies and blackjack don't mix, so don't plan to sit down with a toddler at the tables. Also, the Bellagio does not allow children inside unless they're registered hotel guests, attending a show or dining with the family at one of the restaurants. Take it from us, the best places to take a baby would be shopping or to the many attractions Vegas offers. Try the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay (kids under 4 are free), the Forum Shops at Caesars or gardens at the Flamingo with live African penguins, Chilean flamingos, Mandarin ducks and Koi fish. Youngsters will definitely get a kick out of the Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage. Q: We are coming to Vegas with our 8- and 12-year-olds. What is there to do for kids this age that will still be fun for us? A: Vegas may be Sin City, but there are still plenty of things that the whole family can enjoy: magician Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo, " Tournament of Kings " dinner theater at the Excalibur, the World's Largest Permanent Circus at Circus Circus, buffets , hiking at Red Rock Canyon , the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay and the IMAX Theater at the Luxor. If you want to get some shopping done, Caesars offers something for the whole family. Stop and shop at the Forum Shops where the kids can enjoy the Fall of Atlantis and Festival Fountain shows and aquarium . Some kids also enjoy seeing the Hoover Dam . Q: What is the best hotel to stay in with our kids? A: Location rules in this category. Check out New York-New York for its Manhattan Express roller coaster , Excalibur ( Merlin's Magic Motion Machines and Fantasy Faire midway),Luxor ( IMAX Theater , arcade), Mandalay Bay ( Shark Reef ) and finally Circus Circus , which has the most kid-centric activities per square foot. Q: What is the best free stuff to do with our kids in Vegas? A: There are so many free attractions in Vegas, it's hard to know where to begin. First, you have the sheer wonder of just wandering around the Strip. There also are the gardens at the Flamingo , the erupting Mirage volcano , the Fountains at Bellagio , the "Masquerade Show in the Sky" in the Masquerade Village at the Rio and the high-flying Circus acts at Circus Circus. You also won't want to miss M&M's World at the Showcase Mall, Mount Charleston , MGM Grand Lion Habitat , Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat (kids under 10 free) and White Tiger Habitat at the Mirage. For more, check our free attractions page. That ought to keep you busy. Q: We want a fun place to take the kids to eat. Any suggestions? A: Vegas boasts a lot of dining alternatives that are great for the kids. The themed Rainforest Cafe lets you dine among a 10,000-gallon saltwater aquarium and animatronic animals, and movie memorabilia is on display at Planet Hollywood . If your kid is a picky eater, you can't go wrong with a buffet . You might want to call ahead to find out children's prices and special offers. Chinese Communist influence is not exerted particularly strongly; this is a place where thousands of Chinese fled to for refuge when Mao took to the helm on the mainland. That said, Taiwan still bears the stamp of Chinese culture. Its cuisine, music and practice of Chinese medicine reveal just how closely Taiwan's culture is tied to that of China's.
