Inspired in part by Disney guests who frequented the Company's resorts and theme parks year-after-year, the Disney Vacation Club concept is stamped with Disney's special brand of imagination and innovation.
Launched in October 1991, the Disney Vacation Club has now grown to include more than 63,000 member families from throughout North America and beyond, making it one of the most successful and highly rated vacation ownership programs.
"Our decision to enter the vacation ownership business was a natural progression to accommodate our guests with a flexible vacation product designed to meet their ever-changing vacation needs as they pass through different phases of their life," said George Aguel, Senior Vice President/General Manager for Disney Vacation Development, Inc.
Like many other vacation ownership programs, Disney Vacation Club is grounded in real estate ownership, but it has brought innovative new elements to its vacation ownership product.
"Guests become members of the Disney Vacation Club because of the magical memories and traditions that are so engrained in the Disney experience," continued Aguel. "Anyone can sell accommodations but only Disney can offer the experiential environment, the entertainment, and the imaginative programs that are so uniquely a part of our tradition."
How does it work?
Anchored by the purchase of a deeded real estate interest, membership provides guests with the freedom to tailor vacations to their personal needs as their family's vacation interests change over time.
Unlike traditional timeshare programs, Disney Vacation Club members are not locked into a single week or fixed time period at a single resort. Disney Vacation Club membership is based on a "vacation point" system. Each year, members receive an annual allotment of vacation points that can be used in a variety of ways for different types of accommodations at a dazzling variety of resorts and for other vacation experiences, subject to availability.
Members can also elect to bank or borrow vacation points, use their vacation points in combination with renting accommodations on a cash basis, or can purchase an additional real estate interest at any time. New members can join the club with an initial purchase of just over $11,000.
Where can it be used?
Disney Vacation Club membership may be used to reserve accommodations at the member's "home resort" or they may exchange reserved home resort accommodations to stay at other Disney Vacation Club resorts Disney's BoardWalk Villas; Disney's Old Key West Resort; The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Beach Club Villas (all at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida), Disney's Vero Beach Resort (Vero Beach, Florida), or Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort (Hilton Head Island, South Carolina) at select Walt Disney World Resort properties, the Disneyland Resort hotels in Anaheim, California, and Disneyland Paris hotels in France.
Additionally, through the Disney Vaction Club Member Getaways program, members have access to more than 200 premium resorts worldwide through an agreement with Interval International (II), one of the world's largest vacation ownership exchange companies, or they may select from an elite collection of world-renowned hotels, sample an adventure travel experience like an African safari, take a cruise (including Disney Cruise Line itineraries) and much more.
What are the advantages?
"The Disney Vacation Club is about quality, guest service, attention to detail and a world of choices," said Aguel. "Our members expect us to provide years of magical vacations and treasured memories at an excellent value. But, they also expect our Disney quality and personal service in planning their vacations."
Additional unique advantages to membership include special benefits such as various Disney discount offers and professional travel planners that are just a phone call away. These Vacation Advisors help members plan their vacations and answer questions about DVC membership.
Members further become part of the DVC 'family' through its Vacation Magic member newsletter that offers helpful program information, member stories, DVC resort travel tips, exclusive member merchandise and discounts/privileges and special previews of upcoming Disney events.

Jul 18, 2005 : A TripAdvisor Member, Miami, Florida Compare prices with: I stayed at this hotel in: August, 2005 My ratings for this hotel are: Rooms Service Value Cleanliness Dining Activities and gym Pool I traveled to this hotel with: boyfriend/girlfriend I recommend this hotel for: couples and romantics My visit was for: extended vacation Would I stay at this location again: most likely I too enjoy the reviews from Tripadvisor as I plan vacations to new destination. I again used this site in the planning of our trip to Chicago for the 4th of July. I must say, that one of the main reasons that I booked this hotel was because It was number six on the list. After visiting the hotel... Im not sure how it got such a good rating.... I would classify this hotel as a solid 3 1/2 star. The lobby was very small and unimpressive. I had reserved a room with a King bed.... but upon arrival, was forced into one with a queen bed. No big deal. The room had A/C but it was limited in how low you could turn it down. I like it cold, so I had to removed the restrictive device. No problem... The room was VERY large. The bed was comfy. and the bathroom was small... But all in all, it was very confortable. The location is outstanding!!!! It is in a great spot, one block from North Michigan Ave. You can walk to many attractions, catch a quick cab or jump on the subway a few blocks away. It is a great spot for shopping or hitting the bars on Rush Street. I would stay here again. I think that if I was traveling with a family the extra room would be perfect. Never intracted with staff so I have no comments.... We loved our "princess suite" complete with doll bed, doll bathrobe, doll slippers, and doll hairwrap. The staff was excellent and took good care of us. I would stay here again on my next trip to Chicago...with or without the doll! Jul 12, 2005 : A TripAdvisor Member, Hartland, WI Compare prices with: I stayed at this hotel in: July, 2005 My ratings for this hotel are: Rooms Service Value Cleanliness Activities and gym Pool I traveled to this hotel with: spouse/partner, small children, family members I recommend this hotel for: business travelers, couples and romantics, families with small children, tourists My visit was for: business Would I stay at this location again: most likely Most of the reviews here are on target and complement my family's stay at the Fitz for four days. The staff is exemplary and super-friendly, terrific with young children. Our bedroom suite lacked a door, so our beautiful bed overlooked the sofa bed in which our two children slept. A bit odd, though the room was spacious. Yes, the furniture was a bit sparse and beaten, and, yes again, the bathrooms are cramped and in need of renovation. All in all, the hotel is nice, but if it isn't updated soon, it will really begin to show the wear and tear (others apparently already feel that time has arrived). The location is unbeatable and the hotel offers a pool (that could be cleaned more) for its guests; my children loved the opportunity to swim. I, too, was amazed by the relatively quiet of the rooms at night, though some ambulances can be heard. The elevators are small and they, like the halls, are not air-conditioned, though the rooms were super climate-comfortable! I would recommend this hotel to others, but I also would look to try out some other Chicago hotels on my next visits, which we do three times a year. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to visit the Irish bar downstairs, though my wife said it was beautiful. Traveler rating: Chicago: Fitzpatrick Chicago Hotel : "Fitzpatrick could be much better" Jul 8, 2005 : A TripAdvisor Member, hollywood, florida Compare prices with: I was a little disappointed in the outward appearance of the hotel. The picture on the website made it appear more grand. The lobby was unremarkable and the furniture had seen much much better days. There were two people only at the small front desk and they seeemed rather stressed as the phones were ringing non-stop. The room was huge, undoutedly must be one of the largest rooms in Downtown. I liked the layout. You opened the door into a waiting/foyer area, then stepped down into the living area. To the right was the bedroom and then bathroom and then another area to do whatever. The living room was spartanly furnished -- however it had its own smaLL television housed in a display unit. The carpet was worn -- apparently from too much cleaning, which in itself is not too much of bad thing. The spread had two cigarette burns in it, yuck. For such a huge room, the bathroom is rather small and not modern. All in all, with updating and an eclectic infusion, these rooms could become one of the best in Chicago. We stayed in the Fitzpatrick hotel in June of this year. We got a very warm Irish welcome when we arrived which lasted throughout our entire stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a good mix of Irish and American staff which was great. The hotels rooms are larger than what one would expect for a downtown hotel in the heart of the city which was a pleasant surprise. Fitzers bar in the basement was excellent - the food is great and the craic is mighty!! The hotel is within minutes walk of all the major shopping streets, restaurants, tourist destinations etc. I would highly recommend the Fitzpatrick hotel to both the leisure and business customer! Austria is divided into nine provinces : Burgenland , Carinthia (Krnten), Lower Austria (Niedersterreich), Salzburg , Styria (Steiermark), Tirol , Upper Austria (Obersterreich), Vienna and Vorarlberg . Burgenland This is the area of eastern Austria, south of the River Danube. It extends down along the border with Hungary towards the Republic of Slovenia . Much of the Neusiedler See lies within Burgenland; popular with bird-watchers and campers. The capital of this mostly rural province is Eisenstadt; connected by motorway with Vienna. The southern region of Burgenland adheres to old values of the land where the pace is slower, prices are cheaper and the wines are splendid. The Pannonian cuisine is a reflection of the region's modest conditions. Burgenland became an Austrian possession in 1491, and remained under Austrian control until 1647, when Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand III ceded it to Hungary. Hungary had to return Burgenland to Austria after World War I, although the Hungarians secured the return of Sopron in 1922. Carinthia The province lies in southern Austria, bordering Slovenia and Italy . Called Krnten in German, this is one region visitors should make time to explore. The capital of the rolling province is Klagenfurt, with Villach another major town in the region. Wrthersee is the resort lake that lies between them; although much closer to Klagenfurt. The area west of Villach is known as Upper Carinthia, rising to 3,797 m. From here, Grossglockner towers above the rest of the country as Austria's highest peak. The lush mountain valleys and the well tended farmlands in Carinthia provide for rich savoury dishes. The physical energy needed to work the fields was traditionally fuelled by such delights as Ritschert (a casserole made of barley), Ksekrustelsuppe (cheese soup), Erdpfelsterz (fried mashed potatoes), or Frigga (dried bacon, polenta and cheese). Carinthia was a Roman possession, until it became an independent duchy in 976. The Habsburg family took control of the area in the 13th century, and it became an Austrian crown territory the following year hundred. Carinthia lost some of its land to Italy and Yugoslavia after World War I, and the southern part of the province has many Slovenes living there today. Carinthia Mountain Experience : Wherever you look in Carinthia there are mountains, whether it's the magnificent Hohen Tauern, the beautiful Nockberge Mountains or the rugged limestone crags of the Carnic Alps and the Karawankens. Cycling in Carinthia : Cycling in Carinthia can mean anything from a gruelling hill climb up the Grossglockner to a leisurely run round a lake or a scenic trip through the National Park. Klagenfurt : Klagenfurt and Lake Wrthersee lie in the south of the province of Carinthia, close to its borders with Slovenia and Italy. Lower Austria Surrounding Vienna and filling the country's belly with the fruits of the Danube basin, Lower Austria is the country's largest province in more ways than one -- locally known as Niedersterreich. The land below the River Enns is gaining popularity for short breaks out of the capital, and the area has many fine restaurants. St. Polten, Krems, and Wiener Neustadt are the largest centres in the region. St. Plten City Tour : Take the online tour of the provincial capital of Lower Austria by choosing points of interest on the colourful map of St. Plten. Salzburg The Province extends around the Salzach River, with Salzburg its capital. Salzburg was originally a Celtic settlement and later the Roman trading centre of Juvavum. Numerous cathedrals, including one from the 17th-century in the Italian Renaissance style, adorn the city. The Bauernherbst, literally farmer's Autumn, is a great time to pull up a chair in a Salzburg provincial Gasthaus. Between August and October, restaurant owners adjust their menus to incorporate the harvests of local farmers, and offer their guests true regional dishes. Styria Almost wholly within the Alps, Steiermark is Austria's south-eastern province, bordering Slovenia . Numerous lakes and forested mountain slopes make Styria a pleasure on the eye. Graz is the provincial capital, built on a roman settlement. Charlemagne established the region as part of the Frankish Empire, attaching it to the duchy of Carinthia. It became a separate duchy in 1180 and was acquired by the Duke of Austria twelve years later. As a Habsburg possession in 1282, it remained in the royal house until the collapse of Austrian-Hungarian empire during World War I. Tirol The western corridor of Austria, between Salzburg and Vorarlberg, is bounded to the north by Germany and to the south by Italy . When the Arlberg pass is closed during heavy snowfall, all traffic to Voralberg has to pass through the tunnel. Innsbruck , the capital of Tyrol, was home to the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, and is near to many ski areas. Tyrol once extended to Lake Garda, but after World War I Sud Tyrol was ceded to Italy. Many people in the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige still cling to their Germanic roots. Tyrolean cuisine descends from the days when fruits and fish from the south met on the tables with meat, game and vegetables from the north. Hiking in Stubaital : Marc Thijs provides descriptions of 18 wonderful summer hiking trips in Tirol, with over 300 pictures and several maps. Although the pictures are submitted on various sub-pages, they are large and a fast internet connection is advisable. Upper Austria The land above the River Enns, Obersterreich, offers its guests traditional country-style helpings of dumplings, roasts and potato dishes. There's something of a homecoming for the traditional plain-cooking of home-made blood and liver sausage, bacon dumplings and stuffed breast of roast veal. These dishes go down well with the beers brewed in Upper Austria. The capital of the federal province of Upper Austria is Linz. Digital City Linz : You'll need to read German to get the best out of the service guide and links section. Brucknerhaus : The Brucknerhaus was opened on March 23, 1974, with a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic, conducted by Herbert von Karajan. Some 200 cultural events are staged, including the Linz Bruckner Festival every September. Vienna See Austrian Cities . Voralberg Austria's westernmost province includes the towns of Bregenz, Dornbirn and Felkirch. Voralberg : Where the mountains meet the lake and three lands come together -- Germany , Austria and Switzerland . Alpenregion Bludenz : The Alpine town of Bludenz lies 588m above sea level. Lech am Arlberg : Chic little ski resort above St. Anton -- with a website to match it. Ski Arlberg : Arlberg has always been famous for its beauty, reliable snow extending right down to the villages and the excellent condition of its slopes.
