Many students do not have the chance of a work placement as a formal part of their course but they do want to use their time during the vacation as an opportunity to gain invaluable experience (and supplement their finances!). At the same time many organisations approach us each year with vacancies (whether one-offs or formal internship schemes). This event brings these complementary needs together. The 2005 fair will be on Wednesday 2 November from 14:00 to 17:00. Information for visitors Vacation jobs, along part-time work, are a great way to supplement your finances and gain valuable work experience. Previous exhibitors have offered a wide spectrum of vacation opportunities from leisure camps to finance in settings ranging from volunteering to highly structured formal schemes. See our article Making the most of fair . There is no need to book: just turn up on the day. The Fair is open only to students/GradClub members of King's College London and other member institutions of The Careers Group, University of London consortium . Information for exhibitors This is an excellent forum for filling all kinds of schemes whether you have short work experiences placements or longer, formal internships, and whether the opportunities are for paid work or volunteering programmes. Meet hundreds of students keen to make a contribution in the real world of work. If you would like to exhibit at the 2005 Fair please contact Claire Charlton or download the booking form through the link at the bottom of this article. Customer Reviews Avg. Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other shoppers! 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: Good - but not exceptional , July 21, 2005 Reviewer: annqatrin from Gothenburg Sweden This is a good guide book, as all the guide books in the series, but I did expect a bit more from it. I travelled around Italy together with my husband the summer of 2005, and we used this guide book a lot. But it is a guide book, nothing more. There are quite a bit of things that have changed since the book was last edited, but this is expected. We are planning to send the findings we did to the editor, so that it can be added or changed in the next edition, perhaps. We felt that the book focused too much on churches, castles etc, and a lot of really interesting things were missed - like the local food markets, which we love to visit. There wasn't much of "different" or "special" recommendations, it was just focusing on the "What to see if you are a tourist", while what you remember are the things "sticking out". You can only look at so many churches during three weeks... You could also find that the author(s) recommended one area in the top part of a column, but further down it was the other way around. It was obvious that the text was not written by one person only, but by several, and then compiled into one lump of text. I was aware that several people helped writing the book, and for a guide book I believe that is good, but the texts should be kept separate. Now it became very obvious at times that two people with different opinion had written parts of one text. These guidebooks do not at all talk about how life is for the locals, if there are any "local speciallities" in regards to food and whine etc. Considering Italy is one of the best food countries in the world, I think this is a pity! Funny is that we actually managed to end up at one of the hotels that the book recommended, although we didn't plan for it. I didn't realise we were at the recommended place until the day after we checked in. Some parts I might want to read more carefylly next time... It was an excellent little place, though, and we really enjoyed it! So, in short: Get this guide book, but don't let it be your only guide, make sure you stop by the local touristinfo and pick up some info as well! And have fun in Italy! Was this review helpful to you? 6 of 20 people found the following review helpful: Dissapointing from Lonely Planet , August 30, 2004 Reviewer: nick_matterson from Hitchin, Herts United Kingdom I have bought Lonely Planet books many times before and found them really good, but this book was not very helpful. There is two much information on the cities and hardly anything about the beach areas or areas out of the cities. When I am on holiday I would rather have fun than read 35 pages about monks in the 13th century. Was this review helpful to you? 5 of 16 people found the following review helpful: FAB!!! , March 5, 2004 Reviewer: claudia clarke from Milton Keynes, Bucks United Kingdom I really enjoyed this book and found it very helpfull and with great tips and info to my TRIP to Italy/ Was this review helpful to you? 37 of 37 people found the following review helpful: Indispensable... , September 23, 2003 Reviewer: chrisjparr from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom If you're heading off on a tour of Italy, I thoroughly recommend purchasing this book. The book proved invaluable to me, offering useful accomodation information as well as detailed maps of the places I visited. My journey consisted of a tour of Italy's more famous cities- from Pisa to Florence, on to Rome and Napoli, down to Pompeii and Sorrento, eventually heading north to Venice. For this journey, the book was superb, although I have heared criticisms of the book if you are considering heading further off the beaten track. All in all, I found this book indispensable while I was in Italy, and thoroughly recommend it to anyone embarking on a city tour of Italy. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title . In-Spain.info - Culture in Spain Information on Spain - Travel Spain - Spain Tourism - Map of Spain - Spanish Travel Guide - Spanish Phrases You are here: Home > At a Glance > Spanish Culture Search this site with Google: Web in-spain.info Tell a friend about this site ySpanish Culture While in Spain, be prepared for late lunches and dinners and late evenings out on the town. We've found that taking a siesta in the afternoons helps in getting adjusted to the Spanish schedule. Do's and Don'ts Don't be surprised at how rapidly people speak. We found our Spanish skills are severely tested on many occasions. And don't forget to lisp your z's and internal c's. (For example, Ibiza is pronounced Ee-BEETH-a). Don't complain about cigarette smoke in bars—be aware you'll either be laughed at or shown the door. And don't expect to find "No Smoking" sections in restaurants, either. There is no such thing in Spain. Spaniards often tell us that people who complain about such things are "afraid of life". Do carry some small change—you'll need it to use the public bathrooms. Don't wear shorts in churches; wear them only on beaches and at beach resorts. Women may be the object of unwanted attention more than in Northern Europe, particularly if they're traveling alone or visiting Andalusia or the southern Mediterranean coast. The Best response is no response at all—any attention given is likely to be misinterpreted. Do try to see the fastest ball game in the world, pelota (jai alai), played mainly in Bilbao and Guernica. Do be aware that the penalties for drug possession are severe, and convicted offenders can expect jail sentences. Tipping Tipping is a great tradition in Spain. While practically all establishments currently include a surcharge for service it is still common to leave something of a tip. This custom, common in bars and restaurants, has extended to hotel porters, theatre ushers and taxi drivers, though in none of these cases is it obligatory nor will anyone recriminate a client for not tipping. Smoking Smoking is commonplace amongst men and women in Spain, and do not expect to find many non-smoking areas designated in bars and restaurants. Smoking is also common in fast food restaurants, shops and malls. You probably won't get a polite answer if you ask someone to stop smoking a cigarette for whatever reason. For smokers, this will not be a problem, but non-smokers may find this uncomfortable. Cigarettes and cigars are reasonably cheap, and at the moment average about 2€ per packet.
