Customer Reviews Avg. Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other shoppers! 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: Good - but not exceptional , July 21, 2005 Reviewer: annqatrin from Gothenburg Sweden This is a good guide book, as all the guide books in the series, but I did expect a bit more from it. I travelled around Italy together with my husband the summer of 2005, and we used this guide book a lot. But it is a guide book, nothing more. There are quite a bit of things that have changed since the book was last edited, but this is expected. We are planning to send the findings we did to the editor, so that it can be added or changed in the next edition, perhaps. We felt that the book focused too much on churches, castles etc, and a lot of really interesting things were missed - like the local food markets, which we love to visit. There wasn't much of "different" or "special" recommendations, it was just focusing on the "What to see if you are a tourist", while what you remember are the things "sticking out". You can only look at so many churches during three weeks... You could also find that the author(s) recommended one area in the top part of a column, but further down it was the other way around. It was obvious that the text was not written by one person only, but by several, and then compiled into one lump of text. I was aware that several people helped writing the book, and for a guide book I believe that is good, but the texts should be kept separate. Now it became very obvious at times that two people with different opinion had written parts of one text. These guidebooks do not at all talk about how life is for the locals, if there are any "local speciallities" in regards to food and whine etc. Considering Italy is one of the best food countries in the world, I think this is a pity! Funny is that we actually managed to end up at one of the hotels that the book recommended, although we didn't plan for it. I didn't realise we were at the recommended place until the day after we checked in. Some parts I might want to read more carefylly next time... It was an excellent little place, though, and we really enjoyed it! So, in short: Get this guide book, but don't let it be your only guide, make sure you stop by the local touristinfo and pick up some info as well! And have fun in Italy! There is two much information on the cities and hardly anything about the beach areas or areas out of the cities. When I am on holiday I would rather have fun than read 35 pages about monks in the 13th century. Was this review helpful to you? 5 of 16 people found the following review helpful: FAB!!! , March 5, 2004 Reviewer: claudia clarke from Milton Keynes, Bucks United Kingdom I really enjoyed this book and found it very helpfull and with great tips and info to my TRIP to Italy/ Was this review helpful to you? 37 of 37 people found the following review helpful: Indispensable... , September 23, 2003 Reviewer: chrisjparr from Newcastle, Tyne and Wear United Kingdom If you're heading off on a tour of Italy, I thoroughly recommend purchasing this book. The book proved invaluable to me, offering useful accomodation information as well as detailed maps of the places I visited. My journey consisted of a tour of Italy's more famous cities- from Pisa to Florence, on to Rome and Napoli, down to Pompeii and Sorrento, eventually heading north to Venice. For this journey, the book was superb, although I have heared criticisms of the book if you are considering heading further off the beaten track. All in all, I found this book indispensable while I was in Italy, and thoroughly recommend it to anyone embarking on a city tour of Italy. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title . Argentina Travel Info: General
Argentina Travel Guide - Internal Flights in Argentina Home Transportation Argentina Domestic Flights Domestic Argentina Flights Argentina is a very big country and travelers that want to experience the many highlights of the country will probably need to purchase internal, or domestic, flights in Argentina. There are a number of airlines that offer flights from Buenos Aires to almost all domestic destinations in Argentina for about $125 to $350 USD each way. Be sure to book flights in advance, even during the low season, because many flights get sold out quickly. Aerolineas Argentinas is the nation's best domestic flights carrier. The airline offers multiple flights per day to most destinations and has proven to be much more reliable than the competition. The domestic airport in Buenos Aires is called Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), or simply referred to as "Aeroparque" by the locals. The airport is small, convenient, and only 20 minutes from the city center(the Obelisk) by taxi. The international Ezeiza (EZE) airport also serves some domestic destinations. Ezeiza is about 45 minutes from city center. Be aware that very few cities have direct flights between each other (excluding Buenos Aires), so to fly from one destination to another you will most likely have to fly to Buenos Aires and make a connection to your next destination in Argnentina. Destinations and Flight Distances Map: To first-time visitors to Argentina it is often quite difficult to understand what kinds of distances are involved in travelling the country. The map on the following page was created to help you better plan your vacation. Internal Argentina Flight Map Arranging Flights: If you would like to arrange flights within Argentina, there are very few inexpensive ways to go about doing that. One good option is to buy the flights from AR Tourism, LLC before travelling. The internal flights will cost a fraction of the price you would pay if dealing directly with the airline. Don't get taken by these scams - read the alert and familiarize yourself with the tactics used. Panda Software Warns Online Shoppers to be Careful - New Scam Designed to Steal Credit Card Information Several websites have been identified offering cheap airline tickets with the aim of stealing credit card details from users Even though these sites have been identified and disabled, it is likely that others will appear offering all kinds of products Panda Software advises users to purchase from trusted sites and avoid giveaway prices Glendale, CA - April 6 2005 - Panda Software is warning users about the appearance of a new kind of online fraud. During the last few hours, several websites have been detected that try to entice users with the offer of cheap flights. However the real aim of these web pages is not to sell anything, but to get users to enter their credit card details which will then fall into the hands of cyber-crooks. The scam starts when an unsuspecting user searches for airline ticket offers with an Internet search engine, such as Google. This takes them to an Internet address offering cheap flights. The site includes a form asking the user to enter personal details, including their credit card number, expiry date and verification value (CVV). Once these details have been entered, to prolong the illusion, an error page is displayed telling the user that the transaction has been unsuccessful, and offering instructions on how to pay for the ticket by postal money order. This, in fact, means that the user could actually fall victim to the fraud twice. Firstly, through sending the criminals details of a valid credit card, with which they can carry out all kinds of transactions (transfers, payments...) and then, in addition, they could lose the money if they were to send the requested amount by money order. Until now, the websites identified -which had been disabled by the authorities- offered airline tickets, but it is highly likely that there will be many others offering any other type of "bargain" with the same objective. According to Luis Corrons, director of PandaLabs, This kind of online fraud differs from those witnessed previously. The malicious user does not contact the person interested in buying the product, but it is actually the buyer, in searching for the best prices online, who goes to the fraudulent web page. This creates a false sense of security that can lead users to proceed with the transaction. To avoid this kind of fraud Users are best advised to treat "bargains" with suspicion, and only make online purchases from trusted sites. In any event, if in doubt, it is a good idea to search for information about the website in question on the Internet. Users should be able to find opinions and experiences of other users who have used the same service, adds Corrons. The authorities have been alerted to this kind of threat and IT security companies are collaborating to protect and inform users of the dangers of this new Internet fraud. Russia Travel Guide Despite the proliferation of private vehicles in Russia in the last decade, the majority of residents still rely on public transportation to get around, especially for city travel. Therefore, if you also travel on city transit sytems, you'll have plenty of company. While you will find reasonable public transportation routes in larger cities, be prepared for limited options as you get off the beaten track.
In all of Russia, only six cities have underground metro systems: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk, and Samara. Buses and trams supplement these systems and also are the main city transit vehicles in other areas. In general, public transportation in Russia needs infrastructure modernization but lack of funding keeps improvements minimal.
The cost of public transportation in Russia is heavily subsidized, with costs ranging from four to 10 rubles (15-35 US cents).
Moscow
Moscow has four types of mass transit: the metro, trams, buses, and trolleybuses.
Metro. Moscow's best public transportation is the metro. With over 200 stops, you can get to just about everywhere you want to in the city. Metro entrances are marked with "M" signs. It's worth a visit to the metro just to see some of the stations with their elaborate and beautiful architecture. Trains run very frequently, at least every two to three minutes. They can be very crowded during peak hours.
Buses, Trolleybuses, Trams. Moscow has one kind of ticket for all three types of vehicles. You can buy them at kiosks or at metro stations, or from the conductor in the vehicle. When you get on board, look for a little metal box to punch your ticket. Don't lose your ticket until you get off.
Taxis. There are a number of taxi companies in Moscow. Like elsewhere in Russia, avoid gypsy cabs by phoning ahead for a taxi or asking your hotel to arrange one for you. If you arrive at the Moscow airport, you will see a number of drivers clamoring for your business. It's better to go outside and line up at the taxi queue, where regulated taxis can be found.
St. Petersburg
The city offers a metro, buses, trams, trolleybuses, taxis and boats.
Metro. The metro has four lines and 55 stations. You can pay with either tokens or passes purchased at stations. The metro runs from about 5:45 AM until around midnight. See the box at the upper right to see a map of the metro system.
Trams. If you'd rather travel above ground, jump on a tram. Tram stops have a "T" on the signs near the tracks. Trams have conductors whom you can pay directly or show your monthly pass.
Buses. Bus stops have an "A" on their signs (stands for avtobus). Regular buses also have conductors whom you can pay or show your pass. T-buses (taxi buses) and E-buses (express buses) take cash only and get you to your destination a bit faster.
Marshrutki are passenger vans that cost only about three rubles (10 US cents) and take you to your destination.
Trolleybuses. These vehicles are buses that are connected to overhead electric lines to give them power. Their signs are also marked by a "T."
Taxis. Taxis are more expensive than mass transit. They should have a meter that shows fares according to distance. If you need a taxi, you can flag one down in the street or ask your hotel to call one for you. Often you can find taxis in front of hotels. Russia Travel Guide Index
