Orlando Vacation first week

Kevin's Orlando Vacation Kevin Lowey >Orlando Vacation Kevin's Orlando Vacation Here's a few pictures from my Orlando Vacation first week of March 2003. Select the location below. You will be shown some pictures, with descriptions of what you are seeing. If you select the picture, you'll get the full-sized image. Or, if you prefer, you can see just the pictures . Enjoy! Astronaut Hall of Fame Kennedy Space Center Seaworld Universal Studios Islands of Adventure Disney's Animal Kingdom The theme parks had several kinds of shows. Most of them about 20 minutes long: 4D Movies These are similar to ordinary movies, but often in 3D. They may include some anamatronic figures around the movie theatre, perhaps a few live performers, smoke, light, flame, water spray, and smell effects, trick seats that prod you in the back or bounce around, etc. Examples include "Terminator 2-3D" at Universal Studios, or "Its Tough to Be a Bug" at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Highly recommended. Simulator Rides These are again mostly film, but you aren't sitting in a regular movie theatre seat. Instead, you sit in a simulator that can tilt up, down, left, and right. When combined with the movies, you think you're really moving. Some examples of simulator rides are the "Back to the Future" ride at Universal, and the "Polar Exploration" ride at Seaworld. Tracked rides In these rides, you are strapped into a car that rides around the show on a track. Things jump out at you, the car spins around, etc. Some also include 3D (like Spider Man), or the ability to shoot back at bad guys (like Men in Black). Others are in water instead of land (like the Jaws tour boat). Another example is the ET the Extraterrestrial ride. The "earthquake" ride at Universal is a cross between this and a simulator. They put you in a subway car, which is really a simulator mounted on tracks. It takes you a short distance down the track to a different stage (although with lighting, sound, and wind effects if feels like you went a lot farther). There the simulator rocks and rolls while the subway suffers an 8.0 earthquake. Real Rides These are the various roller coasters, and other similar rides. Cool coasters are the Twin Dragons and the Hulk at Islands of Adventure, and "kraken" at Seaworld. A variant of these is the "water coasters" where you sit in a boat that goes through artificial river rapids, falls, etc. On these you'll always get soaked (so I didn't try them out). Examples are the Jurassic Park ride and the Popeye ride at Islands of Adventure. Another variant is the "jungle safari" ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Here they put you on real 4 wheel drive vehicles, and take you through the Africa part of the zoo, lions, elephants, giraffes, etc. Walkthroughs These are shows where you walk through the stages. Normally there's several separate rooms. You walk into one, get a bit of the show there, then go to the next room, get some more show, etc. Examples of this are the "Twister" show at Universal Studios (where you walk through a town that is experiencing a "twister"), the "Poseiden" show at Islands of Adventure, and the simulated Saturn V launch at the Kennedy Space Centre Apollo exhibit. All of these were great. Live Stage Shows These are typical live shows, sometimes including animals. Some of thecool ones were the "Animal Planet Live" and "Wild Wild Wild Wild West" shows at Universal Studios, the "Pirate Adventure" and "Shamu" shows at Seaworld, and "The Lion King" at Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Caorle continued its history into the Roman era as a natural port for supplying nearby Julia Concordia. The depredations of Attila the Hun in Italy dorve the peoples of Venetia and Friuli to take refuge in these lidos and the town wa probably founded in 452 AD. Today, Caorle offers the visitor an attractive picture, both when viewed from the land and from the sea. Its cylindrical 12th Century bell tower and the extremely old Romanesque Cathedral can be seen nestling against the delightful cliff top whilst the large old fishermen's town that runs along it offers houses in lively pastel shades, "calli" or Venetian alleys and sunny "campielli" or little squares. These attractions are unique to this area and have made the Venetian coastline renowned worldwide. The coast of Caorle, Porto S. Margherita and Duna Verde has 15 km of beach that slopes gently down to the sea blending sea and sand into a single yellow-azure line that perfectly caters for all the holiday maker's needs. Here we find sunbeds and sunshades, cabins and showers, first aid stations and restaurants as well as hotels and boarding houses of all the different rating, camping sites, holiday villages an self catering accommodation. There are also shopping centres and "botteghe" or traditional shops, fashionable boutiques and elegant icecream parlours, typical restaurants, pizzerias, discos and sea terraces. The lagoon and the valleys are Caorle's great wealth, offering thousands of acres of reed beds and calm stretches of water where nature has remained unspoilt. Here and there, are to be found the "casoni", the old reed houses of the fishermen of the lagoon, which are unique historical and architectural records. It is not easy to describe a natural scene in which the only sound is that of the oars or the birds in flight, but this is what Ernest Hemingway did in some of the finest pages of this book"Beyond the river between the trees". At Caorle, history and tradition meet and reconvene moments from the past. The locals savour their relationship with their cultural heritage because this legacy is reflected in their everyday life and has moulded their character and the way they live. The great Caorlina festival , the "bragozzi" regattas (Venetian two masted fishing boats). Caorlevivistoria (Caorle's history come alive) and the Fraima festival are events that evoke a past that its inhabitants think back on fondly and which they bring back to life with splendid historical costumes and folklore. Bibione is located in a vast pinewood and has a beach of unparalleled proportions. Bibion developed as holiday resort in the sixities, although archaeological discoveries show that there was already a settlement here in Roman times. Bibione "Tuttaspiaggia" (measureless beaches) has won a name for itself thanks to the lienght and wdth of tis dandy shores on which the sun shines from dawn the dusk. The beaches are full of orderly, colourful rows of sun shades. It offers safe cycle routes, a splendid sea front and a variety of sporting facilities that make it the ideal place for different activities. Its new and highly modern "Bibione Thermae" spa (recognized by the Italian National Health Service) exploits the alkaline bicarbonate-sodiumfluorate waters that gush out at 52 C and offers mud treatment, bathing therapy, inhalation therapy, and physiokinesis therapy; there is also a well equipped gymnasiums as well as a spa park overlooking the sea with covered thermal and open air swimming pools. The Caorle and Bibione's sorroundings offer a good number of different kind of itineraries: Historical-Artistic-Architectural itineraries which include Portogruaro, Villanova, Fratta, Teglio Veneto, Summaga, Fossalta. Portogruaro is the capital of eastern Venetia and is located halfway between Venice and Trieste. This partly Medieval and partly Renaissance town has the river Lemene running through it, which at every turn offers incredibly beautiful views. The heart of the city is Piazza della Repubblica, to which the Town Hall forms a backdrop. This is considered to be the finest Medieval building in Portogruaro, the oldest part of which dates back to the fourteenth century. Some of the building overlooking the two main streets have have porticoes and are magnificient examples of Italian and Venetian Gothic style from the 14th and 15th centuries. At Portogruaro there is the interesting Museo Nazionale Concordiense . It contains many exhibits, which come from the neighbouring Concordia Saggittaria. The Renaissance Villa Marzotto that belongs to the town council is also worth a visit: it boasts a nice park and it houses the M. Gortani Paleontological Museum. Concordia , situated about 3 km south of Portogruaro, was a Roman settlement and boasts a nice Archeological museum and a nice ancient cathedral with its Byzantine baptistery. The area around these historical towns is rich in natural itineraries that will show you the typical cultivation, parks, woods and lake and in vineyards and the D.O.C.Wine-producers (Controlled Denomination of Origin). ASIA TRAVEL - BANDUNG TRAVEL INFORMATION Travel Information of Bandung How to get there || Shopping || Hotels || Places to eat || Map of Bandung WELCOME TO BANDUNG Bandung , City of Flowers, is the provincial capital of West Java and Indonesia' s third largest city. Known in colonial times as the Paris of Java because of its European ambiance and sophistication, Bandung shares with Miami a fine legacy of Tropical Deco architecture dating from the 1920's. Situated on a plateau in the beautiful Parahayangan mountains, Bandung's pleasant climate and lush surroundings have offered an escape from the heat of the lowlands since the mid 19th century when it was the heart of the region's most prosperous plantation area. Host to the historic Asia Africa conference in 1955, Bandung is now a center of higher education ,commerce and aircraft industry which despite its modern amenities still retains much of its colonial era charm. Bandung is also renowned for its shopping, particularly for shoes, textiles, clothing and denims which are found in the colourful Jeans street . Easily reached from Jakarta by train , road or air (the scenic train trip is recommended), Bandung, with its cool mountain air is a popular second stop for those visiting the national capital and an essential stay-over for travellers enroute through Java. The city center can be comfortably discovered on foot Jakarta - Bandung via PuncakRp. 6.500,-- Jakarta - Bandung via Cikampek / SubangRp. 6.500,- Top SHOPPING As the capital city of West Java, Bandung's shops are filled with products of this far-flung archipelago as well as imported goods. Shopping in Bandung is fun, simple and extensive. Pasar Kota Kembang , a narrow lane with shops and stalls lining along it, could be a perfect place for bargaining cheap clothes, belts, shoes or handbags. Next to it is a shopping center specializing in textiles. This market lane connects Jl. Asia-Afrika with Jl. Dalem Kaum. The first market in Bandung located in Kampung Ciguriang, behind Kapatihan was built in 1812. In the middle of l9th century, the market caught on fire. Later, the merchants gathered around Chinatown and established a new market, Pasar Baru . Once it was a beautiful place surrounded by Chinese-Dutch style shops . Now, only a few are left. Nevertheless, it's still the hub of commerce in Bandung. Plenty of textiles, batiks and clothes in cheap and moderate prices are available. You can test your bargaining skill here. A vegetable market is in the basement. Go to Jl. Pasar Utara. A row of stalls sell all sort of snacks, most of them Bandung specialties. You're welcome to have a taste before you buy the snacks. Jalan Pasar Selatan is lined with jeans shops trying to copy the ones in Jl. Cihampelas. Some of these shops are old ones. With the permission of the owner, old building enthusiasts could enter the old shop and take photographs. Pasar Jatayu , on Jalan Arjuna, is a flea market mixed with motorbike parts shops. After jostling around, you'll find two antique shops in the dark and crammed market. You'll feel like finding a treasure island. Nearby is a row of shops selling military paraphernalia, and the Ciroyom terminal is next to them. These three markets will be a nightmare for a claustrophobic. Known as The 'Flower City', Bandung certainly has a flower market, located on Jl. Wastukencana. The flowers are supplied from cool uplands that surround Bandung. Nice place to refresh your eyes. The rather bizarre 'Jean Street', on Jl. Cihampelas, offers all sorts of jeans and T-shirts while offering fantastic shopfronts to view. The shop owners vie for the most elaborate shopfront design in an attempt to lure business. Shopping centers are in abundance. The Alun-alun area is surrounded by shopping centers, particularly in Jl. Dalem Kaum. Bandung Indah Plaza is the most luxurious shopping center in Bandung. Nearby City Hall in Jl. Merdeka, it is a new favorite place for the young. On Jalan Braga, you could find souvenir and antique shops, such as Sin Sin established in 1943. Leather shoes and garment at Leather Palace . Snake skin bags, shoes and all sort of suitcases at Cuero . Bookshops in Braga offer a great range of English books and magazines. Top PLACES TO EAT Bandung is heaven to satisfy your taste buds. From traditonal food sold by street vendors up to international ones in fancy restaurants. A warung is regarded as a poor man's restaurant. But on Jl. Bungsu next to Puri Mas Bakery, you could see the newest BMW and Mercedez parked in front of a small lane famous for its Sekoteng Ice . By far the best food money can buy and is served in these makeshift foodstalls with canopies, hardwood benches or stools, and glowing with hissing gas lamps. Open after 5:30 pm. Groups of nightstalls located in the corner of JI. Merdeka and JI. L.L.R.E. Martadinata spread mouthwatering smells from sizzling sate on red hot glowing charcoal braziers. Try Madurese, chicken, beef, or mutton sate and various kinds of soto, an Indonesian thick soup. Jl. Cikapundung Barat stalls (occupying sidewalks used as a selling place for secondhand books at noon) serve all kinds of popular Indonesian food. Sate Padang Pak Datuk is worth a try. Near the RRI building on Jl. Diponegoro, you can taste local delicacies such as gorengan (sort of Japanese tempura) from tofu, sweet potato, taro, pineapple, jackfruit, banana and comro (mashed cassava filled with fermented soybean cake). A sip of bandrek -ginger drink- and bajigur -coconut milk sweetened with palm sugar- in a cool night is a nice treat. A piece of sweet awuk (coneshape rice cake with layers of palm sugar) can be enjoyed in Awuk Cibeunying stall. Roasted corn on a cob with four flavors, seafood, Indonesian style Chinese food, pecel lele (fried eel fish with yummy sauce), fried goldfish and chicken porridge all are available. Feel thirsty when strolling around Alun-alun, go to PakAceng's ice juice pushcart on Jl . Kapatihan in the mouth of a blind alley, next to 'Damai' shop (pay attention to 'Shinly' &'Krizia' billboards). Es campur (mixed ice) or if you want a sterile one, just ask for fresh orange juice with young coconut water placed in a plastic will be made for Rp. 750,-. Since 1967, Pak Aceng has been a famous es campur seller. As a rule of thumb, warungs line and crowd in almost every intersection. But a good sense and luck play an important part in finding a good warung with fair price and nice food which does not upset your stomach. Lotek Kalipah Apo , famous for its lotek and gado-gado since 1953, serves all kinds of sweet tasty kolek with thick coconut milk plus pieces of bananas, and rice cakes. A variety of rujak, Indonesian fruit salad, is ready to be tasted. Be wary of the hot sauce of the rujak. Avocado juice, mixed ice, young coconut ice and cendol ice, -colored rice drink with palm sugared coconut milk- can make you real aficionados of these desserts. Stalls along Jl. Rama offer Indonesian style fried chicken, Chinese food, and much more. The best pempek -a sort of fish meatballs dipped in hot vinegar sauce- can be eaten in one of the stalls here. It's a Palembang specialty. Craving for western delights, Tizi has a wide range of German touch bread, cakes, cookies, pan cakes, and steaks. A cart selling colenak(roasted fermented cassava root )at the mouth of Jl. Kidang Pananjung is also worth a try. Glosis with romantic lighting and cooler climate of an uphill area could be a perfect place for dinner. Braga Permai with its original Dutch era cake recipes would be a cozy place to recall the atmosphere of old Braga Street. Queen Restaurant offers luxurious Chinese food while Dai Shogun serves qualified Japanese food, sit facing its heartsoothing garden. Paregu offers less expensive Japanese food with eat your fill Yakiniku and Shabu-shabu. Hanamasa on Jl. Merdeka serves buffet Yakiniku. Top Asia Travel || Indonesia Hotels & Resorts
